Classes of membership

Full membership is open to anyone currently engaged professionally in editing or publishing, or who has had such experience in the past. Applications for full membership are assessed by members of the society’s management committee. Full members are eligible for inclusion in the freelance register, may vote or hold office in the society and receive the society’s newsletter, published 10 times a year. The annual subscription for full members is currently $85.00.

Associate and student memberships are open to anyone, including full-time students, interested in the activities of the Society. Associate and student members receive the newsletter, published 10 times a year, and can be elected to the committee but may not vote or hold office. Associate and student members are not eligible for inclusion in the freelance register. The annual subscription for associate members is currently $70.00 and for students $30.00.

Corporate associate membership is open to any organisation that supports the aims of the society. Corporate associate members receive three copies of each issue of the society’s newsletter, published 10 times a year, may advertise in the newsletter at members’ rates and are listed on the society’s website as corporate members. Up to five staff and members of corporate associates may attend the society’s workshops at members’ rates but may not vote or hold office in the society, or be listed in the society’s freelance register.

Half-year rate

New members joining between 1 January and 31 May in any year pay only half the membership fee for that financial year; a full year’s subscription then becomes due from the 30 June next occurring. If you join on or after 1 June in any year your subscription is good until 30 June the following year.
