2020 Annual General Meeting

6:30pm, Wednesday 28 October 2020, Zoom meeting*.

For this year, the ACT Government has amended the Associations Incorporation Act 1991 to permit annual general meetings to be held online (section 70AA). This* is how we will be holding the 2020 AGM.

As most of you will know, we usually hold the AGM together with a dinner – alas, it has proven too difficult this year for any suitable venue to accommodate us. The lovely venue at University House is out of action for restoration works, prompted in part by hail damage in January. And our negotiations with National Library of Australia and Bookplate Café for a hybrid onsite/online meeting, followed by dinner, were well advanced when NLA took the disappointing decision to cancel all onsite events for the rest of the year (despite the persistent absence of COVID-19 cases in ACT; we were, of course, prepared to cancel for a rise in cases).

So we have decided to hold the AGM separately this year. We very much hope to schedule a relaxed, enjoyable (covid-careful) social event for November.

*If you wish to attend the AGM, but you will have difficulty with the online format for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible.

The AGM requires a quorum of 20 full members to attend. Of course, members at all other levels are welcome as well.

As ever, all committee positions fall vacant at each AGM. If there is a contribution you would like to make, do put yourself forward for election. Your fresh ideas and perspectives are always welcome. We will send more information on positions and the nominations process, as well as other necessary documentation, in the coming weeks.

Attending the webinar

You do not need to register to attend the webinar. A link will be sent to all members. If you do not have the link, please contact the Secretary via the Contact us link on this site (select Secretary in the drop-down).

Update your Zoom app ahead of time

Zoom has recently released a significantly upgraded version of their application. You will need version 5.0 or higher to attend the webinar.

To check your version: sign into the desktop app > click on your profile picture or initials > select ‘Help’ from the dropdown menu > select ‘About Zoom’ from the menu that appears at the side. A window will appear showing your version number.

To update your version: sign into the desktop app > click on your profile picture or initials > select ‘Check for updates’ from the dropdown menu. A window will appear, ‘Checking for updates’, then ‘Updates available!’ (yes, with an exclamation mark). The update will download in a few seconds – an ‘Update’ button will appear when it is ready. Click the button – the update will take another few seconds to install.

Success!
