Checking the accuracy of dictionary definitions
An Australian physicist has found a basic error in the definition of the word ‘siphon’, which may have existed in dictionaries and text books around the world since about 1911 – the question is whether it is gravity or atmospheric pressure that causes a siphon to move water.
