This directory lists professional editors who are members
of the Canberra Society of Editors.
Other editors societies have similar listings—find them in New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria
and Western
Australia.
If you are looking for an editor to do a particular kind of
job, you can use your browser’s ‘Find’ tool (just type control-f for Windows,
command-f for the Mac) to search on any term, such as ‘art’ or ‘index’, to find
which editors work in these fields or provide those services. Clicking on an
email address will open a mail window to the editor concerned.
At present this page includes entries for about 70 editors,
whose names are listed below—click on a name to go straight to the entry.
The Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) in Australia
introduced national accreditation of editors in 2008, to create a scheme
comparable with registration or accreditation schemes already well established
in many professions, such as accounting, engineering, law, psychology and
public relations. Accreditation of editors aims to help members of our
profession gain recognition of their skills. At present only a small proportion
of editors Australia-wide has sat the examination, so that the absence of any
mention of ‘DE’ (Distinguished Editor) or ‘AE’ (Accredited Editor) in an editor’s
entry does not necessarily mean or imply lesser competence.
|
Disclaimer Canberra Society of Editors offers ‘full
membership’ to members with appropriate qualifications and editing
experience, and includes their names in this register of freelance editors at
their request. The society publishes the web and printed versions of the
register in good faith and with due care, but it is obliged to say that in
doing so it can give no guarantee that a particular editor will be suitable
for a particular task. |
Any full member of the society can be included in this
list—just email your entry as a Word attachment, or in the body of the message,
to your web minder, Peter Judge.
Your entry should broadly follow the format of the others. There is no reason
why all entries should look exactly the same, but we are being strict about the length—no more than 250
words.
