The fifth national survey of editors, conducted at the IPEd conference, ‘Getting the message across’ in Adelaide in October 2009 has shown some interesting trends in the editing profession.

The results show that the possible beginning of a movement back to in-house editing and away from freelancing. Employees accounted for almost 60% of the 89 survey responses, coming in as a majority for the first time. This survey saw professional development emerge as a first priority for the first time.

The survey also reports characteristics of Australian editors, trends in fees, challenges and training requirements.
