Specific projects

Writing, editing and production
of numerous guidelines, public consultation and policy documents for the
National Health and Medical Research Council and other health-related agencies
(early 1990s–ongoing). Scientific editing of the Australian Veterinary
Emergency Plan
— a series of over 40 manuals detailing Australia’s response
plans for outbreaks of emergency animal diseases, such as foot-and-mouth
disease, equine influenza, avian influenza and anthrax (1995–ongoing). Editing
and production of eleven issues of Animal
Health in Australia
(Australia’s annual submission to the World
Organisation for Animal Health) and other related documents for Animal Health
Australia (2000–ongoing).
Editing and production of many documents for the World Health Organization and
UNAIDS (2004–ongoing).

In 2007, Janet and the Biotext team won national and international awards from the Society for Technical Communication for writing, editing and production of the report of a major review of Australia’s
legislation on human cloning and embryo research (the ‘Lockhart Review’, 2005).

Janet is the director and sole proprietor of Biotext. Other Biotext consultants are graduates in science and/or communications and most also have postgraduate research experience; our senior editors are all accredited editors.
