CLOSED: Editorial Assistant, Canberra

Aboriginal Studies Press seeks an editorial assistant for a twelve-month appointment from March 2010. We’re looking for a highly motivated and efficient person to work with a small team producing award-winning books in the area of Australian Indigenous studies.

You will have:

  • the ability to prioritise tasks to meet schedules and to manage a varied workload
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail
  • good computing and administrative skills
  • the desire to undertake some editorial and proof-checking work
  • the ability to work autonomously, while contributing as part of a small team
  • the ability to liaise with authors and contractors.

The position reports to the Director and would suit someone early in their career in editing who wants to learn more, or a skilled editor who wants to work part-time.

Tasks undertaken might include copy-editing short documents, proofreading, fact checking, photo and other research, checking materials prior to printing, liaising with other parts of AIATSIS.

Graduate qualifications or experience working in the book publishing industry are required. Previous experience working in an Indigenous organisation would be valued, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
